Exit and Entrance

A final day of anything is usually bittersweet, and my final day of existing on the Teen Grid was nothing less.  In many wasy, I was glad to leave.  Leaving signals growing up, becoming an adult, moving into a bigger pen, and discovering new delights.  Yet when I leave, there’s no turning back – I go and go forever, ever to return, no matter what.  There is bitterness in leaving my home for the last year and leaving behind so many amazing friends who have helped and guided me.

I woke up early on my birthday and bothered Concierge to get my ticket through, which they did pretty quickly, though every minute of waiting killed me.  Finally, to log on!  …And land in a random Korean sim.  I quickly searched for Help Island and TP’d in, posting my arrival on Plurk.  Then everything exploded – I was quickly innundated with messages, gifts, and welcomes from so many other residents.  It was all I could do to get out the gifts I had brought over from the TG in the midst of everything.  Soon enough Moo Money arrived and whisked me away for some skin shopping at 5th&Oxford with a brand new shiny giftcard.  We didn’t have giftcards back on the TG, so this was a new experience, and much easier to use than I had anticipated, and the skins were beautiful.  I  was taken to Starlust Motel, FabFree headquarters, and the RUNE sim for some offroading with Maxwell Graf, which an amazing experience.  The only real sports I did back on the TG were kicking a sphere around, some light surfing, and sailing.  It’s trilling to see such a variety of activities available here.

My first half of the day was a rush of shopping, freebies, things being dropped, friend requests, offroading, and tons of chats and welcomes.  After taking a break to go out and tend to RL, getting my first phone, going out for sushi, I came back.  Quickly I was once again up over my head at a party being thrown for me on the Rouge sim, with Nexeus Fatale DJing.  Over the course of the night we had nearly 60 people show up, designers, bloggers, fashionistas, Lindens, all sorts, all turning out for me.  It was really extrordinarily touching and super amazing.  The whole night was fabulous, and I can say honestly that it looks like wherever I go on this grid, I’m going to have friends.

(Please forgive me for leaving out photos – my image uploading is being a bitch outside of Flickr, and I can’t risk using up too much of my space on my blog.  Please check my Flickr, and for more pictures of the party, please click here.)

One Good Deed

As of this post, I am at eight days and counting to my 18th birthday and transfer to the Main Grid.  When I realized I was leaving the TG forever in only a month, I started sending out notices to many of the groups I am an officer in, giving other teens an opportunity that is somewhat rare – the opportunity to send gifts across the grids.  The response has been amazing.  There has been an outpouring from the TG community to send gifts and notecards to friends who have transferred, and so many have expressed how they wished they really could communicate with their friends who are often just a few months over 18.  One guy even said that he didn’t have the opportunity to tell a girl how he really felt about her before she was gone, and asked me to give her a notecard with his contact information. Suggestions, I Need Them

As many of my regular readers know, I’ll be moving to the Main Grid on August 1st.  This is a huge change, and I have many feelings about it.  One thing I’d really appreciate is suggestions on things to do once I arrive.  If you have any places I should visit, people to talk to, advice, ideas, anything, please feel free to leave a comment on this post, or send an email to ArwynQuandry@hotmail.com .  I’d really appreciate all the advice and help I can get.

Thanks for reading my blog, and I can’t wait to turn 18!

Yes, TSL Birthday Sim and More!

From the Teen Second Life Forums, written by Twilight Linden

As the main grid prepares for the 6th anniversary of Second Life, we would like to extend an invitation to the residents of Teen Second Life to participate in a much more interactive way than in years past. We’ve created a region where we are encouraging all those who are interested to help work together and create a build which, when complete, will be copied and moved over to the main grid and attached to the SL6B region. This is a huge opportunity to show the adults just how much talent and perspective the teen community has. Here is what you need to know:

1) The theme of this years birthday celebration is “The Future of Virtual Worlds”. Any build will need to form to this theme.
2) The build needs to be ready by June 23rd. That’s 2 weeks!!
3) For more information, you should drop a notecard with your name to Twilight Linden as she will be coordinating this effort.

If you’re a teen and like to build, get your build ready and registered!  If you’re an adult, watch out for some Teen-made builds.  This is probably the most activity the TG has gotten since Valentines Day, when a sim called Hugsville for Teens was set up.  Response from the teen side has been slightly negative, with many residents wondering if all they would get would be the builds, or if there would be some activities just for them.  Some fear that this is simply an attempt by the Lab to sugarcoat the negative messages about their lack of involvement in the Teen Grid.

The builds are an opportunity to spread a mixed-grid message by creating a display promoting an all ages area, as well as showcasing what teens can do, and drawing attention to the lack of LL involvement in teen affairs.

No TSL Birthday Sims in Sight

With SL6B rapidly approaching, the Main Grid has noticed a large patch of birthday sims for the occasion have cropped up, being hurridly prepared for festivities.  Last year, Teen Second Life also recieved a small party in the form of four sims to roam and a visit from the newly appointed M Linden to answer questions.  There were no areas for displays, and only one event, but it was something.  This year, even with the date approaching,  no birthday sims have appeared on the Teen Grid, and there have been no announced plans for a celebration.

As of late, Linden Lab has been paying less and less Read the rest of this entry »
