It seems that the Grid Merge ideas are getting some attention again, and since I have a bit of an archive of old articles covering both sides of the specturm, felt it was time to share a good list. Below are articles and forum threads and JIRAs involving the ideas of the Grid Merge.

Everyone with an IQ above room temperature knew the grids were merging when the PGification of the mainland was announced. Obvious since the majority of current main grid residents were against it and still are, and thus no reason for the action and the involved expense and labor unless there was an external reason — namely preparing for the grid merge. The question is when Linden Labs will announce this “surprise”, not if.

I think this should happen. Main Grid is not wall to wall porn like people say.

I agree with kevin, this should happen. Not all teens are idiotic, some teens- in fact including me and many others strived very hard to keep TSL within safe rules (Even when lindens are not around). Some teens and most graduates from TSL turned out to be MUCH more decent and much more sane/open-minded compared to certain adult populations. Certain amounts of adults on MG does not want teens on their grid because rumors found are out-looking at bad sides of having teens within in a grid. Teens will, in fact be much happier to unite with elite groups: the outstanding result is that they mature much faster (For instance, I am learning architecture and art, which you can just talk to pros within SL that are RL Architects and artists. That can only exist if a merge is happening due to professions existent only with people 18+). With an extra few years in teens lifetimes of attuning skills, they will likely go on a higher position than current elites due to accelerated maturity and skill.

Edward is right. It’s obvious that the grid merge is going to happen, just LL has no intentions towards telling us right away. I can’t help but wonder: If there’s 75,000+ residents on the MG, and there’s about 1000 TG residents, why are they so worked up over a population increase of 9%? Why are they so worried? What difference does it make that is so bad for them?
And, yes, I’m a resident of the Teen Grid.

There are upwards of 200,000 active MG residents, Apollo. :p

Well, until the switch-over. Then there’ll be 200,000 active residents on private sims and 1000 MG residents.

I think you may be confusing “Main Grid” with “Main Land”… Err, something.

Linden Labs continues to deny the merging merely because they fear lawsuits, primarily because there is no exact definition of what is mature, and what is not. If they should ever come to define what mature content is, then all they’d have to do is allow us teens access to the PG stuff.

Huh, never heard of this before. I wish they would merge the grids, at least in a small way. People complaining about “not being able to be adults” is ridiculous. The TG has more mature members then any mixed age group site I’ve been to. The MG is not all porn and perverts and the TG is not all little kids who only talk about Hannah Montana.

Yes, you’re right. But LL feels that there are too many risks to go through with this, the likelihood that someone will sue for mature exposure is very high.
Land ownership on the TG is not exactly high. Teen Land Owners are rare, and the ones that buy lots of land are even more so rare.
Let alone how L$500 on the TG is a lot, whereas on the MG, that wouldn’t be exactly “a lot”.
And since TG residents could only ever be on the TG for 4-5 years, there aren’t a whole lot of prolonged periods of prestige. And even then, we couldn’t be renowned as the tycoons that have been on the MG since ‘03.
(And at one point I think I started to make no sense to myself >_<)

The Teen Grid could benefit from having some Main Grid Merchants here, which would very quickly reduce the number of people on the MG that are supposed be on the TG. I know quite a few people that have alts on the MG- mostly for the content, or the stuff they can buy. This would also help stop copybotters as well.
Or LL could let us login to XStreetSL.com :/ That’d help, too.
The Teen Grid just needs more stuff that we can buy, and more affordable prices for land. LL doesn’t make it very easy for content creators on the TG since prices for land are way too high, and we’re teens, so we don’t have as much money to spend as adults do. What manner of miracle does LL expect, having the price of a private island as USD$300 for us?
